The Sentifi Index
Eleven Korean market and alternative-data signals turned into one score from 1 to 100 — higher means greed, lower means fear.
Index Overview
Each indicator is scored 0–100 against its own recent norm, then the eleven scores are weighted, averaged over 5 days and clipped to 1–100.
Funds flow (credit loans, derivatives deposits), market (gold), people's behavior (insomnia and urgent-sale searches) and alternative data (kimchi premium, crypto trading, FIRE and lotto searches, stock-board posts, IPO demand) together show how the market really feels.
A global, transparent alternative to the CNN Fear & Greed Index.
The formula
Index(t) = clip( round( ⅕ · Σₖ₌₀⁴ Σᵢ₌₁¹¹ wᵢ · Sᵢ(t−k) ), 1, 100 )
Sᵢ(t) = 100 · Φ( ± zᵢ(t) )
zᵢ(t) = ( dᵢ(t) − μᵢ ) / σᵢ
dᵢ(t) = Xᵢ(t) / MA₆₀(Xᵢ)(t) − 1
Σᵢ wᵢ = 1 · credit, derivatives, insomnia, urgent 15.75% each · gold 7% · kimchi, crypto, FIRE, lotto, board, IPO 5% each
X is each indicator's daily value (for the kimchi premium, Upbit Bitcoin ÷ global Bitcoin in won), d is its gap from the 60-day average, and Φ is the standard normal cumulative probability. The sign is − for gold, insomnia and urgent-sale searches and + for the other eight, so a high score always means greed. If a source is unavailable it is left out and the remaining weights are rescaled to 100%.
Why it is built this way
- 1
60-day gap, not the raw level
Psychology shows up as a change from normal, not an absolute number. A loan balance that keeps growing would read as greed forever, so we measure how far today sits from the last 60 days.
- 2
z-score, then normal probability
Won, search volume and dollars can't be added directly, so z-scores put every indicator on one scale. The probability keeps ordinary days near 50 and pushes toward 0 or 100 only when a reading is truly extreme.
- 3
Core 70%, alternative data 30%
Funds flow and people's behavior are the most direct signals, so the five core indicators carry 70%, with gold smallest as an indirect safe-haven signal. Six alternative-data signals — kimchi premium, crypto trading, FIRE and lotto searches, stock-board posts, IPO demand — get 5% each: individually weak, but together they add a broader read on retail mood.
- 4
5-day average on the final index
Search data jumps day to day; a 5-day average removes that noise while showing the mood over one trading week.
How the Sentifi Index is Built
Eleven indicators, each with its own weight and direction.
How much more Bitcoin costs on Korea's Upbit than abroad. A widening gap shows Korean retail chasing risk.
